The Iskar Folklore Ensemble is а group for Bulgarian folk songs and dances. It was founded on the 30th of September 1985 as a part of the Center of Culture “ISKAR” - Sofia.
It has a rich and varied program composed of folk songs, instrumental music melodies and scenic dances based on theatrical folklore from all regions of Bulgaria. This is group has given more than 200 concerts.
It has been on a tour in Hungary in 1989; in France in 1989 where it has had a life broadcast on chanel 1 of France TV, Italy - 1990, Romania - 1991, Spain - 1992 (International Festival). It has taken part in many national competitions, has won different prizes. The members of the Ensemble are young enthusiastic people who love Bulgarian folk songs and dances.
In our ensemble train the following groups:
-children over six
-secondary school students
-lovers of folk dances without restriction of their age
These groups have their own program according to the age of their members and they can get in touch with similar groups.
The Ensemble has a complete program for special concerts. It is also prepared for participation in mixed programs.
Nikola Kolev is the art director of the Ensemble. He is the producer-choreographer, a dance teacher in the National Choreographic School. He is the author of dances performed by many national ensembles. He was awarded a national and two international prizes for original choreography.
We can offer concert programs including masterpieces of singing, dancing and instrumental Bulgarian folklore, which present the cultural traditions of our nation.
Our ensemble can organize teaching courses for familiarizing with popular Bulgarian folk ring dances and songs and for training in some folk musical instruments such as pandore, rebec, bagpipe, drum, wooden flute etc.
We sincerely believe that our possible collaboration will contribute to mutual understanding, tolerance and peace all over the world.
